This module provides a historical and literature review of TEMS and TAMIS in the management of benign and malignant rectal lesions. It first provides a historical perspective on the introduction and ultimate adaptation of the technology. The core of the presentation is focused on review of current available data on recurrence rate and survival of benign, T1 ant T2 malignant rectal lesions treated with TEMS and TAMIS.
Upon completion of this module, participants should be able to:
- Describe historical perspective of TEM and its ultimate widespread adoption
- Explain advantages of this technology compared to trans-anal excision
- Recall relevant literature in management of benign and T1 and T2 malignant rectal lesions using TEMS
- Recall relevant literature in management of rectal lesions using TAMIS
