Robert Woodward Beart, Jr, MD

Professor of Surgery
University of California, Los Angeles

Robert Woodward Beart, Jr, MD, currently serves as the Costello Professor of Surgery for the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA.

He has previously served as a Professor of Surgery for the Mayo Clinic and an Instructor in Surgery for the University of Colorado. He has also served as Chairman for the Colon & Rectal Division of University Hospital and Vice-Chairman for General Surgery at Norris Cancer Center.

Dr. Beart serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, the Journal of the American College of Surgery, the Journal of Laparoendoscopic Surgery and the Annals of Surgical Oncology. He is also a member of many medical societies and boards, including the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

He has authored or co-authored almost 300 articles and almost 100 book chapters, and has continually involved himself in research activities.

Before earning his Medical Degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, he earned his Bachelor's Degree from Princeton University in Princeton, NJ. He completed his Residencies in general surgery at the University of Colorado Medical Center and Fellowships in liver and kidney transplant surgery and colon and rectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic.
