SCIP Inf-9 Measure
Dear Colleagues:
Our Best Practice Parameters Based on Level 1 Data & JACHO Recommendations Session was well attended at our Annual Meeting in Minneapolis. We hope to have a similar session at out next annual meeting. During that session concern was raised about the SCIP-Inf-9 measure regarding removal of foley catheters. It was mentioned during the panel discussion that our pelvic and perineal procedures are exempt from this measure. Many members expressed concern that they and their respective hospital administrations were unaware of this fact. Please refer to page two of the SCIP measure where it explicitly states urologic and perineal procedures in Appendix A 5.16 are exempt.
I appreciate Mark Welton's assistance in providing this information for our members. I hope this will help you in dealing with your hospital administrators.
Sincerely,
David Beck, MD
President
