Case mix / number of cases: Each resident participates in approximately 125 abdominal colon and 100 anorectal procedures. Broad endoscopic experience is provided including approximately 175 colonoscopic examinations and 850 flexible sigmoidoscopic examinations.

Strengths of program: The program provides a strong clinical emphasis with one-on-one teaching by the faculty. There is a good mix of abdominal and anorectal patients and good endoscopy experience.

Clinic or office experience: The resident averages 3 days a week in the clinic setting.

Interaction with general surgery residents: None.

Conferences: Weekly conferences include pathology, didactic lectures with attending, multi-disciplinary cancer conference, grand rounds with nursing staff, enterostomal therapists, pharmacist, and librarian. There is also a monthly anorectal physiology conference.

Anorectal physiology availability: An anorectal biofeedback laboratory is available on the clinic floor. Defecocraphy and transit studies are also available.

Outside rotations: None are offered.

Research year: None available.

Requirement for paper: A scientific paper is required for completion of the program.

Opportunity to attend meetings: The resident attends the ASCRS meeting and a regional society meeting.
