Each year we are increasing the number of laparoscopic cases that we perform. Endorectal ultrasound in performed in our office.

Strengths of program: Jefferson has a strong primary care tradition which serves as a referral base for common colorectal problems, from within the institution and the surrounding environment. At the same time, Jefferson is one of the leading tertiary care centers in the valley, allowing the opportunity to care for complex surgical problems as well. The hospital has state of the art facilities and a complete range of consultative services.

Clinic or office experience: The outpatient offices are adjacent to the hospital. Office evaluation and management of patients is integral to the program, with opportunities to participate in office hours with each of the attending surgeons.

Interaction with general surgery residents: Two general surgery residents (PGY 1 & 3) are assigned to the Colon and Rectal Surgery Service, along with third and fourth year medical students.

Conferences: Weekly conferences include Surgical Morbidity and Mortality and Cancer Management Conference (a multidisciplinary conference). Monthly conferences include Gastrointestinal Disease Conference (multidisciplinary); Tumor Board; Colon and Rectal Journal Club; and a weekly GI surgery conference. Visiting Professors and Surgical Grand Rounds occur monthly except in the summer months.
