Case mix/number of cases: The service performs approximately 600 anorectal procedures, 250 abdominal colon procedures, and more than 2500 colonoscopic examinations annually.

Strengths of program: The resident obtains an extensive experience in anorectal surgery and colonoscopy. There is a large outpatient experience and an opportunity for research. Transanal ultrasound and anal manometry are available. Participate in national laparoscopic colorectal protocol.

Clinic or office experience: The resident participates in the office evaluation and treatment of patients.

Interaction with general surgery residents: A PGY-3 general surgical resident rotates on the service as a "3rd" CRS resident.

Conferences: Five conferences per week are scheduled including morbidity and mortality, colorectal cancer, (Tumor Board) gastrointestinal, grand rounds, and colorectal specialty conference.

Anorectal physiology availability: A computerized system is available in the physiology laboratory.

Outside rotations: Each resident may visit one center for one week.

Requirement for paper: A scientific paper is strongly suggested.

Opportunity to attend meetings: The resident attends one national or regional meeting each year.
