Case mix / number of cases: Each resident participates in approximately 125 anorectal surgeries that also includes TEM and STARR, 200-250 colonoscopic procedures. In addition there will be approximately 200 abdominal cases of which 80 to 90 will be laparoscopic. 45 – 50 pelvic dissections.
Strengths of program: The greatest strength of the program is the balance of the surgical experience. A broad office experience is also offered.
Clinic or office experience: Office experience accounts for 2-3 half days per week spent in the office. In the office the usual consultations and check-ups are done, as well as multiple procedures including banding of hemorrhoids, infrared coagulation, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and sphincterotomy.
Interaction with general surgery residents: General surgery residents rotating on the colorectal service while at the PGY-3 level throughout the year.
Conferences: Includes a weekly review of the Core Curriculum by one of the faculty. In addition Journal Club occurs on a monthly basis, as well as a monthly quality assurance. Additionally radiology/pathology conference occurs twice per month.
Anorectal physiology availability: Defecography, EMG, endorectal ultrasound and manometry are done on a regular basis.

Requirement for paper: Each resident is required to generate and submit at least one abstract for the ASCRS meeting.
