Public Relations Committee Announced Award Winners

David Jagelman, MD, Award for Advocacy in Colorectal Cancer

ASCRS presented its 2016 David Jagelman, MD, Award for Advocacy in Colorectal Cancer to David Rodman Cohan, founder of Susie’s Cause, a Baltimore-based grassroots public charity dedicated to delivering important messages concerning early screening, healthy lifestyles and treatments for colon cancer.  The award was presented by ASCRS Public Relations Committee Chair Dr. Roberta Muldoon during the meeting.

“We are especially impressed with the Susan Cohan Colon Cancer Foundation’s innovative outreach programs that have led to significant increases in colon cancer screenings throughout the nation,” said Dr. Muldoon. “This organization’s passionate advocacy is akin to the patient advocacy pioneered by the award’s namesake, Dr. David Jagelman.”

Local Hero Award Announced

Ulcerative colitis survivor John Sicklick was honored with the 2016 ASCRS Local Hero Award during a ceremony May 3 during the ASCRS Annual Meeting.  The award recognizes a patient who overcame a colorectal disease and contributed to the local community through advocacy or public outreach efforts. Each year a recipient is selected from the metropolitan area where the ASCRS Annual Meeting is held.
