CREST Core Subject: Trauma | ASCRS

CREST Core modules cover Core Subjects in Colorectal Surgery. This module describes the management of colon trauma, rectal trauma and management of rectally inserted foreign bodies.

Upon completion of this module, learners should be able to:

  1. Recall the historical context and evolution of management of colorectal trauma.
  2. List the differences between colon trauma and rectal trauma.
  3. List the differences between civilian and military traumatic injuries.
  4. Know how to manage various colorectal trauma scenarios.
  5. Describe the epidemiology and social aspects of rectal foreign bodies.
  6. Explain the management strategies for removal of rectal foreign bodies.

As a Core Subject, it is eligible for 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
