Case Mix/Number of Cases: There is a broad mix of abdominal, anorectal and endoscopic cases which easily fulfills the case expectations of the ABCRS. Abdominal procedures include open, laparoscopic, and robotic.  

Strengths of Program: The faculty has diverse training and age spread and is made up of dedicated geographical full-time physicians. The facility is a large, multidisciplinary institution with all specialties and residencies represented and interacting under one roof. 

Clinic and/or Office Experience: The resident participates in his own outpatient clinic, as well as the colorectal cancer clinic. One half day per week is spent in private faculty offices. 

Interaction with General Surgery Residents: The colon and rectal surgical service is also a component of the surgical residency, and the colon and rectal surgery resident works as part of a team comprised of senior and junior surgical residents, medical students and a nurse practitioner.  

Conferences: There is a robust conference schedule consisting of a weekly departmental teaching conference, weekly multidisciplinary tumor board, weekly teaching rounds and a monthly journal club. 

Anorectal Physiology: The resident will become proficient with anal manometry and anorectal ultrasound.  

Outside Rotations: Not Available. 

Research Year: Not Available. 

Requirement for Paper: A scientific paper is required for completion of the program. 

Opportunity to Attend Meetings: The resident attends the annual ASCRS meeting as well as our regional society meeting.
