Continuing Medical Education


The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  

Transferring Credits to the ACCME/American Board of Surgery (ABS)/Other Collaborating Boards 
ASCRS is transferring CME and Self-Assessment credits earned for completion of ASCRS activities directly to ACCME/ABS and other collaborating boards. 

IMPORTANT: ASCRS can only transfer credits if you have consented to share your data and completed the information (including state and state license ID) in the ACCME tab of your ASCRS profile. 

Completing the ACCME tab of your ASCRS Profile:  *Required for credit transfer.

  • Step 1: Log into www.fascrs.org  
  • Step 2: Navigate to ‘Profile’ under the MyASCRS section of the website. 
  • Step 3: Click ‘ACCME’ in the left navigation panel of your profile. 
  • Step 4: Complete the fields in this section and select ‘Yes’ from the consent question dropdown menu.  
  • Step 5: Click ‘SAVE’ at the bottom of the screen. 
You only need to give consent once, but please maintain the information in this tab for timely credit transfers. 

ASCRS Transfer Schedule 

ASCRS is working towards an automated credit transfer process, but it will not be an immediate transfer. Per ACCME/ABS policies, ASCRS is transferring credits as follows: 

Live Activities Starting June 1, 2023 (online and in-person): Credits are transferred for physicians who give consent (see above) and complete the credit claim requirements (for example completing session and overall evaluations), within 30 days of the live event end date.                                                                                                                       

Enduring Activities on ASCRS U:  
  • Credits are transferred for physicians who give consent (see above) and complete the credit claim requirements, on a monthly basis for ongoing activities. 

  • Credits are transferred for physicians who give consent (see above) and complete the credit claim requirements, within 30 days of the CME expiration date for activities that have closed. 

Finding your CME and Self-Assessment from ASCRS Activities 

Credits and certificates are available in the CME section of ASCRS U. You can view and/or download your credits certificate(s) by logging into your ASCRS U account (same login as www.fascrs.org), clicking ‘CME’ at the top of the screen, adjusting the dates as needed, and clicking ‘view/print certificate’.  

Credits transferred by ASCRS to the ACCME will be available to physicians in the ACCME CME Passport, a free, centralized web application where you can create a personalized account to view, track, and generate transcripts of your CME credit. Visit www.cmepassport.org to create your account. 

Reporting Past Credits

ASCRS is unable to transfer credits for annual scientific meetings prior to 2023 or closed enduring activities such as previous versions of CARSEP (current is CARSEP XI) to the ACCME/ABS and collaborating boards.

If you need supporting documentation for past credits, certificates from past ASCRS events/courses are available in the CME section of ASCRS U. You can view and/or download your credits certificate(s) by logging into your ASCRS U account (same login as www.fascrs.org), clicking ‘CME’ at the top of the screen, adjusting the dates as needed to capture past event dates, and clicking ‘view/print certificate’.
